Hello Kitty Hungry Hunt partnered up with several restaurants in and around downtown Los Angeles to bring exclusive, themed meals and limited edition pins from each establishment. Here is Zip Izakaya’s contribution to the Hunt! Photos after the break…
Come one, come all! That is to say if you’re one of the lucky twenty-five who decide to wait in line outside before being admitted into lunch or dinner service. We chose the lunch hour because we live only a couple of blocks from Zip, so lining up was easy for us. People lined up as early as 8 in the morning while others started trickling in around 10:30, which is when we fell in line.
Lunch service is typical of any restaurant with a regular menu: you sit down, are asked what drink you would like, and have a few moments to look through the menu. For the exclusive sushi meal, however, you were given a business card outside and are instructed to give it to your server to claim the meal. Given there were only twenty-five pins to give out, you can imagine most, if not the entire restaurant, there for just the sushi plate. Considering the portions, however, an extra dish or two certainly wouldn’t hurt as a single Hello Kitty roll just won’t cut it if you’re looking to whet your lunchtime appetite. Others may opt for just the HK-themed plate for the sake of time and because of convention schedule, or simply because there are other Hungry Hunt locations to check out. Chado Tea Room themselves are having a 3pm tea serving and lucky customers who line up early enough can get a pin from them as well.
And there you have it! Hello Kitty’s face is nicely arranged in her seaweed, pickled ginger and daikon radish glory in a simple and clean shrimp tempura roll. Just look at that pin; isn’t it amazing?! Unfortunately, we only had a few pieces before we had to pack the rolls up and move onto the next Hunt.
